Dr. Carlos Alberto Wasmosy (cousin of former Paraguayan President Wasmosy), Director of MaternityCentral Salud #3 Clinic and Pediatric Health Center #3 in Asuncion, Paraguay organized a volunteer medical mobile unit in the Chacarita slum.

Through the efforts of this team, which includes Dr. Wasmosy, a nurse and psychiatrist, all registered and sponsored children have been examined and immunized. Psychological evaluations have also been completed, with special efforts being taken with adults in three families. These adults / parents are receiving therapy to help them with daily family functions.

Club Foot Surgery

Thanks to sponsor and PPP volunteer Kathy EastlandFidel Ramirez in 1998 of Madison, WI and the Children's Clinic in St. Cloud, MN, Fidel Ramirez runs and plays with his family. Fidel had extensive foot surgery in early February 1995, after suffering from a club foot since birth. The surgery was very painful for Fidel but after physical therapy he now walks and plays. Fidel, who was three-years old at the time, is one of eight children who live in a 8 by 10 foot house in the Chacarita slum.   He could not walk without great difficulty.

In early September of 1996 Amelia Esquivel, from Tobati, had successful surgery on her club feet. The doctor decided to do both feet at the same time so as not to extend this painful operation over too long a time period. A series of different casts followed surgery to help correct the alignment of Amelia's feet. Since undergoing extensive physical therapy is now walking and is excited about her new beginning. This was a life-changing surgery for Amelia. Thanks to all who made it possible!

Eye Operation

Another sponsored child, Marcio Colonel Recalde (sponsored by Marshal & Anita Tracy) underwent eye surgery on both of his eyes in 1996. The surgery corrected lazy eye.

How can I help?
