The Koe-ju daycare center was renovated in 1992 by PPP and a Playing Outside the Koe-ju Facilitymedical and dental clinic was built at the same time. Koe-ju means "The Dawn" in Guarani, which is the native language of most Paraguayans.  The PPP financially supported and operated the Koe-ju until 1996 at which time the Paraguayan government took control.

The Koe-ju medical / dental facility and daycare center expanded it's services in February 1996 when Dr. Carlos Wasmosy, Director of Central Salud #3 Clinic in Asuncion, began providing on-site healthcare for the sponsored families.  Program expansion was achieved with cooperation from the Paraguayan Ministry of Health. Coordinating efforts for the government was Ida Caballero de Rodriguez, Director General of the Ministeria Bienestar Social.

Children Playing Outside the Daycare FacilityThe daycare facility is now offering a structured educational program for children and adolescents. The facility has two classrooms, one providing a program for three and four-year old children, which they call kindergarten, and one for a more formal program, called pre-school, for five and six-year olds.  Teachers for the programs have prepared special books and manuals for the education programs.  Currently 20 PPP sponsored children are enrolled at the Koe-ju center

Unfortunately, as many of you know a fire swept through a section of the Chacarita where many PPP sponsored families lived in April 1997 destroying 31 homes. 12 of those homes belonged to sponsored families.  Although there was no loss of life, many families lost what little possessions they had. The only damage to Koe-ju was the destruction of a brick wall around the facility. After the fire the 12 families were housed at the Koe-ju facility, all 85 bodies, and not all have yet found new homes.

How can I help?
