| The Project for the People of Paraguay (PPP) established
it's child sponsorship program for their families in the Chacarita and Puerto Pabla areas
of Asuncion in 1994. In the summer of 1999 over 215 sponsors were making a difference in
the lives of their sponsored children and their families. |
 |
 |
- PPP has maintained an on-site director for it's sponsorship program in
Asuncion since its inception. This director manages the sponsorship program as well as
other activities for the organization. Sponsors donate $20 per month for their sponsored
child. Seventy five percent of the monthly money received goes directly to the support of
the child
|
| and the remaining twenty five percent pays for the
sponsorship program director's salary, part-time psychologist, part-time sewing
instructor, rent and utilities for the office and materials for sponsorship activities
such as parties, awards and incentive prizes. The sponsorship program provides the
following for it's sponsored children: |
 | Ongoing medical and dental exams and treatment, which includes
immunizations. |
 | Psychological evaluations by social workers and psychologists. |
 | Education in life skills. |
 | Education-related supplies such as uniforms, school supplies,
registration and tutoring. |
 | Clothing and shoes |
 | Monthly home health care supplies including laundry soap, fluoride
toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, vitamins and milk when needed for infants. |
 | Yearly needs assessments for the child's family. |
 | A cultural exchange through communication between the child and sponsor.
|
 | Christmas baskets for the child's family which include useful household
items such as sheets, pots and pans, silverware, hygiene items, food and gifts for each of
the sponsored children. |
 | Birthday gifts. |
